Aims
The Journal of Basic Research in Medical Sciences (JBRMS) aims to advance scientific knowledge and foster innovation in medical research by providing a high-quality, open-access platform for the global dissemination of original findings in basic and translational medical sciences. As an international, peer-reviewed journal published quarterly by Ilam University of Medical Sciences (IlUMS), JBRMS is committed to promoting scientific excellence without financial barriers to authors or readers, maintaining a strict no article processing charge (APC) policy. The journal strives to bridge fundamental laboratory discoveries with clinical applications, support early-career researchers, and contribute to evidence-based progress in understanding human health and disease mechanisms worldwide.
Scope
JBRMS publishes rigorously peer-reviewed scholarly work across the spectrum of basic medical sciences and their clinical interfaces. The journal's scope encompasses, but is not limited to, the following disciplines:
- Pathophysiology of diseases: Pathophysiology explains the functional and biochemical changes that are associated with or a result of disease or injury.
- Laboratory Medicine: Including Biochemistry, Hematology, Clinical Genetics and Genomics, Immunology, Medical Microbiology, and Pathology (including histopathology and cytopathology). Laboratory medicine is a complex field that measures biomarkers and microorganisms in bodily specimens or tissues to diagnose and manage diseases. It encompasses multiple disciplines including clinical chemistry, hematology and coagulation, clinical microbiology, clinical immunology, molecular diagnostics, and transfusion medicine. Laboratory medicine is driven by technology that helps define the boundaries among its disciplines. Although laboratory medicine specialists are diverse in terms of their education, training, and career paths, their practice of the profession and their adherence to its guiding principles are similar. The goal is to generate relevant chemical, cellular, and molecular data that can be integrated with clinical and other information and interpreted to aid clinical decision making.

The Journal of Basic Research in Medical Sciences (JBRMS) welcomes multidisciplinary and integrative studies that connect basic science with clinical practice. Acceptable manuscript types include original research articles, short communications, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, narrative reviews, case reports and case series, and letters to the editor, all evaluated against stringent criteria for scientific validity, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and relevance to the journal's disciplinary focus. Submissions must demonstrate a clear contribution to the understanding of human physiology, pathophysiology, disease mechanisms, or therapeutic innovation.
